Doctor of Nursing Practice, Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner
Sarah is excited to be joining VT Gynecology!
Sarah received her B.A. in Anthropology with a focus in Global Health and Gender Studies from Northwestern University. During her time in Chicago, Sarah taught workshops on healthy and abusive relationships to high school students in Chicago Public Schools, as part of a comprehensive adolescent health curriculum. Before returning to school to study nursing through the University of Vermont’s direct-entry Doctor of Nursing Practice program, Sarah thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, guided for a wilderness therapy program for teenagers in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, ski patrolled at Bolton Valley, and worked as a Licensed Nursing Assistant at the University of Vermont Medical Center.
Sarah started as a new RN on a general medicine floor at UVMMC before moving to the Emergency Department and completing Forensic Nurse Examiner training. In her role as an FNE in the ED, Sarah has provided trauma-informed healthcare, forensic examination, evidence collection and documentation, and follow-up planning in the acute aftermath of sexual assault and domestic violence, as directed by the survivor. As part of her doctoral nurse practitioner program, Sarah completed a quality improvement project that aimed to improve knowledge of trauma-informed care, including trauma-informed pelvic exams, among clinicians in the emergency setting. Sarah is passionate about cultivating patient safety, autonomy, trust, empowerment, and collaboration in all healthcare encounters.
Sarah’s areas of clinical interest include routine and preventive healthcare, contraceptive counseling, vulvovaginal concerns, gender-affirming healthcare, and care for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Her professional memberships include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, Vermont Nurse Practitioners Association, Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, National Abortion Federation, and National Ski Patrol.
In her free time, Sarah practices pottery and enjoys cycling, climbing, hiking, skiing, yoga, tending many house plants, and spending time with her friends and family. Sarah recently bikepacked along the Continental Divide from Canada to New Mexico, and hopes to commute to the office via bike as often as she can!
