SANE Counseling
Have you recently experienced a sexual assault? At Vermont Gynecology, our providers understand the impact of sexual harm on your health and well-being. We are now offering nursing consults to discuss available resources for care. SANE consults at Vermont Gynecology are centered around the survivor’s needs and desires and can include preventive treatment for sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy prevention, connection with an advocate, and referral for injury assessment.
SANE consults at Vermont Gynecology differ from the SANE exams offered in a hospital emergency department. A SANE visit with us may be appropriate under the following circumstance:
- Assault occurred greater than 120 hours ago
- Collection of forensic evidence is not desired
- No acute injuries
Alternatively, survivors may consider seeking SANE care in the emergency department if an exam is needed and/or completion of a SANE kit with evidence collection is desired.
If you were recently assaulted and are experiencing heavy bleeding, severe pain, or lost consciousness, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. Vermont Gynecology is unable to treat serious injuries and strangulation.
If you have been assaulted– we believe you and we are here for you. This is not your fault.
We will do our best to provide you with compassionate, trauma informed care and help you navigate your next steps.
